Brent crude
What is the world actually paying for a barrel, and how much of the move is the Gulf rather than demand?
96.02USD / barrel
Brent is the price against which roughly two thirds of the world's traded crude settles, which makes it the cleanest single read on how markets are pricing supply risk in the Gulf, the Red Sea and Russia.
The number on its own does not separate a geopolitical premium from ordinary demand. What it does do is date the moves precisely, so a claim that a conflict "sent oil to $120" can be checked against the month it supposedly happened.
How this is measured
Europe Brent spot price FOB, published daily by the U.S. Energy Information Administration and distributed through FRED. We plot the last quoted price of each month for the past three years. No smoothing, no averaging, no adjustment.
